RESOLUTION AND TECHNICAL LEVEL OF VIBROACOUSTIC DIAGNOSTICS FOR AUTOMOTIVE UNITS

Abstract
A procedure is proposed for assessing the resolution of vibroacoustic diagnostics by combining diagnostic feature repeatability, local calibration sensitivity and clearance estimation uncertainty. Cylinder–piston pairs and crank-shaft main bearings are considered. An effective measurement increment is distinguished from statistically confirmed discrimination between states. Preliminary numerical estimates and a comparison of ten diagnostic methods using seven criteria are presented. Conditions are specified for incorporating clearance estimates into remaining useful life assessment and adapting the procedure to other automotive units.
