COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF THE SOLVATING POWER OF HYDROCARBONS AND ALCOHOLS TOWARDS NAPHTHALENE

Abstract
The evaluation results of the solvating power of hydrocarbons and alcohols towards condensed aromatic hydrocarbon – naphthalene – were presented. The dependence of the solubility changes of naphthalene on the molar mass of the solvent was determined: hydrocarbon and alcohol, their structure (paraffinic, isoparaffinic, napthenic, aromatic hydrocarbons and alcohols), dissolution temperatures. The molar mass of hydrocarbon and alcohol has a direct impact on the solubility power of naphthalene. Hydrocarbons in their capacity to increase the solubility power of naphthalene may be arranged in the following order: paraffinic hydrocarbons of the branched structure<paraffinic hydrocarbons of the linear structure<naphthenic hydrocarbons<aromatic hydrocarbons.
