IMPROVING THE METHOD FOR ENSURING SPATIAL-TEMPORAL PRIORITY FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT VEHICLES AT SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS

Abstract
This article develops an improved method for dedicating dedicated lanes for public transport vehicles (PTVs) at signalized intersections. This method creates a continuous "spatial corridor" for PTVs to approach the stop line and pass through the intersection without obstruction. A classification has been developed, including six main types of lane configurations adapted to various traffic management scenarios (straight, turning, and combined). Simulation models were developed in the VISSIM environment. It has also been established that the method's greatest effectiveness is achieved when integrated with adaptive traffic light control algorithms, in particular, with the function of calling a special "green" phase, which ensures full spatial and temporal priority.
