Abstract
This article deals with questions of developing students' critical thinking as the most important characteristics of scientific thinking. The author analyzes various approaches to the definition of critical thinking. It is paid attention to the technology of development of critical thinking. Attention is paid to the role of the teacher in foreign language classes, working within the technology of critical thinking.
