Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the prerequisites for the origin and development of strategic linguodidactics. Against the background of the rapid change of methods, theories and approaches that have taken place in language pedagogy over the past fifty years, the reasons that allowed the linguostrategic theory to gain a stable position are substantiated. It is shown that none of the existing methods succeeded to overcome the dogma of teachers’ primacy, while the cornerstone of the strategic linguodidactics has been the interest in natural mental processes actualized in the consciousness and behavior of the student. The new paradigm considered a student as activе self-determining personality processing information in complex, often peculiar ways, and the purpose of the study was to identify the mechanisms providing successful performance. A generalization and comparative analysis of the stages and directions of linguostrategic research both abroad and in Soviet and post-Soviet language pedagogy and psycholinguistics are carried out, and conclusions are drawn about their effectiveness and prospects.
