Abstract
The article is devoted to the substantiation of the legitimacy of using the concept of "social formation" which was proposed by P. Sztompka in the context of the practice of social and cultural transformations. The evolution of the sociological concept and possibilities of its use in cultural studies. The social formation is seen in the context of a new modern understanding of the transformation of the former USSR countries. In respect of social formation, model substantiates the existence of certain gaps in understanding and translation difficulties. Shows the existing limitations of applying and the use of social formation for use in the discourse cultural studies.
