Abstract

The article focuses on certain features of American mentality, investigates paradigms and patterns of cultural and civilizational development of American society in John Steinbeck's nonfiction essay «America and Americans», 1966. The essay is not translated into Belarusian or Russian languages and has never been the object of scientific research in the humanitarian space of СIS, so the choice of it as a material for the research seems to be urgent. Fundamental paradigms, universals and personality types existing in American society are defined in the article under holistic approach. Also the article explores childhood and senility phenomena, introduces and explains the term «Paedosis» as fear and adoration of their own children.
