RITUAL APPROACH AS A THEORETICAL JUSTIFICATION OF THE ONTOLOGICAL ESSENCE OF DRAMA

Abstract
The article reveals the specificity of the ritual approach in understanding of drama as a cultural phenomenon. Three basic principles of the ritual approach are explicated: rhythm; tragic action as a ritual of purification; ritual unity of viewers. The ontological nature of drama within its ritual character is analyzed. It is concluded that the process of deontologization of the drama devalues its social significance and turns it into a powerful weapon of suppression of mass consciousness.
