PLANE SECTION HYPOTHESIS IN MODELING REINFORCED CONCRETE ELEMENTS BASED ON A NONLINEAR DEFORMATION COMPUTATION MODEL

Abstract

The use of a nonlinear deformation calculation model for reinforced concrete elements requires consideration of the specifics of applying the flat-section hypothesis after the formation of normal tensile cracks in the cross-section (uneven deformation of concrete in the compressed zone along the element's length and the work of tensile concrete between and above the cracks). Two options for accounting for the deformation characteristics of cracked reinforced concrete are considered: the use of transformed concrete and reinforcement deformation diagrams for an averaged section, which corresponds to the flat-section hypothesis for the deformation process; and the use of the original deformation diagrams for a section with a crack, followed by a transition to mean deformations.
