NETWORK ENGLISH AND FRENCH NEOLOGISMS IN ECONOMIC DISCOURSE: LINGUOPRAGMATIC FEATURES

Abstract
This article identifies the pragmatic, lexical-semantic, and word-formation features of online neologisms in English-language and French-language economic discourse (based on contemporary media sources). The sources of neologism selection were identified, including regional discourse, global English-language discourse, and French-language discourse. Methods of neologism analysis were also considered: contextual, comparative, and pragmatic. The article provides a pragmatic analysis of neologisms, which performs key functions: shaping positive connotations and influencing opinion. An analysis of the word-formation characteristics of English and French neologisms revealed differences in the productive methods of neologism formation. The most common methods of word-formation for economic neologisms in modern English include compounding and affixation, in addition to the widespread use of abbreviations. For French neologisms, the most productive method is calque.
