WAR AS ERSATZ LIFE IN M. НARETSKY’S AND A. HARODNJA’S WRITINGS

Abstract
The article is devoted to comparative-typological study of M. Нaretsky’s and A. Harodnja’s writings about the First World War. Both writers’ works have some features in common. They are the use of opposition technique in its ‘one’s own – alien / we – us’ modification, the motif of war treated as the way to nowhere, the innovative methods of narration approaching modernist techniques. The novels and short stories, based on the negative attitude towards the war, differ in their attitude towards socialist and internationalist ideas. M. Нaretsky connected the events of 1914–1918 with the free future of the Belarusians. A. Harodnja supposed that the worldwide catastrophe must lead to a revolution and the proletariat rule. In that context the idea of national freedom was not of great importance, even though the author sympathized with.
