LOGISTICAL ASPECTS OF MILITARY LEADERSHIP IN LATE REPUBLICAN AND EARLY IMPERIAL ROME

Abstract
The article deals with the relationship between these important elements of the military leadership, his axiology and routine provision of troops with food. The article explains close relationship between the traditions of self-restraint in food, typical of Roman military ethos, and such specific Roman socio-cultural phenomenon as disciplina militaria. The conclusion is made that the logistical aspects of the military leadership in ancient Rome is not only a competent organization of quartermaster service by the commander and the ability to plan the campaign, but even more the ability of the military leader to use community sociocultural aims of the Roman army to self-restrain in material consumption.
