LINGUAPRAGMATIC FUNCTIONS OF REFERENCES IN SCIENTIFIC SPEECH

Abstract
The article presents the results of the pragmalinguistic analysis devoted to finding and characterizing aspects of references functioning in a scientific dialogue. So, our research shows that references in scientific communication are extremely variable, which is predetermined by their important pragmatic role in the discourse under study, by their highest pragmatic potential that can be specified in a list of functions that references have to fulfill: argumentative function, axiological function, bibliographical function, informational function, expressive function, delegating function and a few others. Some references can perform a few functions. Reasons that make speakers use references can be different, for example delegating references are used for the following reasons: to conceal ignorance, to get rid of the responsibility for developing the dialogue, to show a desire to hear the opponent’s opinion, etc.
