Abstract

The article is devoted to the novel ‘One of ours’ by W. Cather. This is a book that illustrates some special achievements of the American women prose about the First World War. There is the evident link which unites these works with the legacy of male writers who developed the various manifestations of the ‘lost generation’ motive. The author’s reflection of the psychological state of the character is highlighted. The war in Europe is presented in W. Cather’s prose as an event which determined the final personal transformation of the protago-nist, who has lost all illusions about Western civilization.
