Abstract
The importance of public transport in urban life is enormous. At the same time, the presence of a more attractive alternative in the form of a personal car, as well as its excessive development, lead to many negative consequences: an increase in accidents, an increase in economic losses, a decrease in the quality and life expectancy of citizens. Therefore, a competent policy for the development of public passenger transport will make it possible to receive substantial dividends in the future.
This article examines the trends in the development of public and personal passenger transport in the world and in the Republic of Belarus, analyzes the current situation, provides arguments in favor of the need for priority development of public passenger transport.
