DETERMINING THE TECHNICAL CONDITION OF UNITS BASED ON THE RESULTS OF INSPECTION OF INDIVIDUAL PARTS

Abstract
This paper examines the determination of the technical condition of the most complex automotive unit (engine) based on the results of monitoring camshaft cam wear, which is visible to the diagnostician without disassembling the unit or where removal of the camshaft is possible with minimal effort. This parameter, on the one hand, serves both structural and diagnostic purposes, and, on the other, is closely correlated with the unit's operating life. The importance of restoring the camshaft cams by applying a coating over the entire working surface followed by copy grinding, ensuring the geometric parameters specified by the manufacturer, is also established. This feature affects the engine's power output and fuel consumption during operation.
