GEOFFREY CHAUCER’S ARTISTIC EXPLORATIONS

Abstract
The present article is dedicated to the analysis of artistic development of English medieval prominent poet. Using provided by O.A. Kirpichnikova periodization of Geoffrey Chaucer’s work the author of the article determines main trends in his literary works. As a result of study of the books created by Geoffrey Chaucer during the first two periods of his artistic life one can point out the following trends as most significant: development of English literary language; work on such themes as the theme of love, authority and experience, as well as of literary creative work; genre experiments; formation of a specific narrator image. In “The Canterbury Tales”, that signify the third period of Chaucer’s creative work and development of poet’s own original mode of writing, these issues were solved within genre and idea synthesis. The poet assumed his role in development of literary language and retaining literary heritage.
