EDIC AND BALLAD FEATURES OF ICELANDIC FAIRY TALES

Abstract
The article analyzes the specificity of sagnakvæði (Icelandic fairy-tale songs). Much attention is paid to the features that unite this subgenre with Eddic poetry on the one hand and folk ballads of supernatural on the other. The thematic, plot and stylistic features of sagnakvæði are considered in detail. During the analysis, a hypothesis is put forward that not all the works that are traditionally considered as sagnakvæði belong to this subgenre. Arguments are given in favor of this hypothesis.
