Abstract

Smartphone addiction is a new phenomenon, one of the most widespread non-medical addictions, surpassing Internet addiction and gambling addiction in its mass. The negative consequences of smartphone addiction include psychological, behavioral and self-efficacy problems in victims of this addiction. The article studies the manifestations of this phenomenon among the cadets of the Ministry of Emergencies. It was found that smartphone addiction is positively associated with loneliness, addictive behavior, sleep problems and bad mood, and negatively - with communicative competence, persistence, self-control, and self-regulation. The links we identified with loneliness, self-regulation, competence, and sleep problems generally correspond to the nature of the correlations found in foreign studies. New, both for domestic and foreign studies, are the negative links we have established of smartphone dependence with persistence and self-control and positive links with addictive behavior and bad mood. According to the results of this study, it is recommended in the process of educational work with cadets to draw their attention to the negative consequences of dependence on smartphones and the preference for direct, live communication with others.
