ANXIETY, PERFECTIONISM AND ATTACHMENT IN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND University STUDENTS

Abstract

This article examines anxiety, perfectionism, and attachment in high school and university students. A sample of 100 individuals revealed a moderate level of perfectionism and a low level of anxiety. Most subjects exhibited a secure attachment style, while high school students were more likely to exhibit an avoidant-dismissing attachment style. Therefore, the article concludes that, with advancing age, defensive rejection of intimacy decreases, and a more stable and trusting model of relationships with significant others develops. Statistically significant relationships were found between anxiety, perfectionism, and attachment in both university and high school students. High school students showed correlations between the variables "Anxiety" and "Normal Perfectionism" and "Pathological Perfectionism," while university students showed correlations only between the variables "Anxiety" and "Pathological Perfectionism." A correlation between the variables "Anxiety" and "Worry" was found in both university and high school students. It was concluded that anxiety can be corrected by reducing perfectionism. Differences were found between the high school and university student groups in anxiety levels, perfectionism, and attachment. It was concluded that these differences are due to the different social developmental situations of university and high school students.
