Abstract

The present article points at the increasing attention of the contemporary art and science to the personality and creative work of Geoffrey Chaucer. The main object of this paper is to elicit the reasons for the rising interest in the XIV century poet among the contemporary audience and literary scholars on the example of The Canterbury Tales. The study is based on analysis results of animation and cinematographic adaptations, musical performance lyrics of the book, theatrical performance reviews, a book on modern rap interpretation, modern fiction books that contain indirect or direct indications of Geoffrey Chaucer, literary studies. The demand of common people and literary scholar community for The Canterbury Tales by G. Chaucer can be explained by the poet`s ability to understand the human nature and by the book`s flexibility and incorporation of urgent problems for a medieval reader as well as for our contemporaries.
