THE INTERRELATIONSHIP OF ASSESSMENTS OF AUTHORITY, EMOTIONAL ATTRACTIVENESS AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TEACHERS BY STUDENTS

Abstract

The article analyzes the relationships between students' assessments of the authority, emotional attractiveness and personal qualities of teachers. The method of semantic differential “The teacher through the eyes of a student” and the author’s questionnaire, consisting of 28 communicative and activity qualities, were used. The Spearman correlation analysis method was used to process the data.


As a result of using the author’s questionnaire, significant positive strong correlations were found: 1) students’ assessments of emotional attractiveness and authority with assessments of the teacher’s communicative qualities (commitment, expressiveness, foresight, fairness, optimism, sociability, tolerance), and activity qualities (competence, activity, initiative, artistry, critical thinking, observation and stress resistance); 2) between assessments of emotional attractiveness and communicative qualities of a teacher: goodwill, sincerity, friendliness, tact and sensitivity, as well as between assessments of emotional attractiveness and activity quality – creativity; 3) between assessments of the teacher’s authority and his active qualities, such as determination, passion for science, high efficiency, determination, hard work, perseverance, independence.


Based on the results of applying the semantic differential, positive strong correlations were identified at a reliable level: between assessments of emotional attractiveness, authority and the following activity traits of the teacher: “Highlights the main thing”, “Complies with logic in presentation”, “Erudition”, “Arouses interest among the audience”, “Interested in student success”, “Objectivity in assessing knowledge”, as well as communicative traits: “Presents the material clearly, accessible”, “Monitors the audience’s reaction”, “Demonstrates clarity of diction”, “Goodwill and tact”, “Respect for students”, “Patience”; between assessments of emotional attractiveness and the following communicative traits of a teacher: “Can relieve stress”, “Explains complex issues”; between assessments of authority and the following active qualities: “Asks questions, discusses”, “Useful of the material in the future”, “Demandingness”.
