GENRE AND STYLE PECULIARITIES OF SCOTTISH, ENGLISH AND SWEDISH BALLADS OF SUPERNATURAL

Abstract
This article analyzes the structural and stylistic features of Scottish, English and Swedish folk ballads of supernatural. Using the comparative method similarities and distinctive features of the two ballad traditions are examined in detail. The article also focuses on plant and ornithological symbolism of the ballads. This article is accompanied by a large number of quotes to illustrate the stylistic phenomena under consideration. The author introduces the concept of “bribery-dialogue” to describe a typical dialogue in Swedish folk ballads, occurring also in the Scottish tradition.
